A retired school teacher and his wife have watched the progress as they jog/walk by and are very impressed with the overall design. The UPS driver, the mailman, the next door neighbors, and the builder across the street all like the barn and its appearance. Another builder from down the road stopped and checked out the trusses. He's also impressed with the barn. The fact that I built it alone also gets to them. They think I'm crazy, but it proves that it can be done and if one guy can build this barn, then any small inexperienced crew with guidance can do it. And this can be seen in all the other barns represented on your site; husband/wife, friends, brothers etc. some with carpenter expierence and many without, they can all build great barns. Tomorrow we'll have a bit of a barn raising, putting up the walls, framing the front & start to put up trusses. I have to say, I'm having a great lot of fun with all this. My wife bought me the barn plans (and whatever tools I need) for my birthday this month. We'll have miniature goats by the end of the month. However, I listened to your advice and stuck with the dimensions (thinking the entire time that you were half crazy )and it looks wonderful! People have commented they can see our place for miles.   By the way, about 2 months ago, our framer came by with a couple that had the same set of plans, they wanted to see what the finished product looked like. Thanks, Jim Rudd Round Rock, TX 32x40 Garage/Shop   ...(the barn) is coming along great and it's everything and more than I ever dreamed of. My brother, who is a carpenter, would travel every weekend from Rhode Island (3 hours one way) to help guide us in interpreting the barn plans and in the actual building of the barn. Our crew included my roommate, a good friend, my brother, his best friend and myself (3 women, 2 men). When it came time to build the trusses my brother built the first one and we lifted and used it as our sample. He then marked the loft floor as a template and put stopper in for us to build the rest. He said he would be back in two weeks. So for the next two weeks my roommate and myself built the other twenty trusses. It was rather easy to build them once my brother laid the template out for us. She owns a large bucket truck and we used it to lift and put the trusses into place. It was a piece of cake to do and we had them all up in one day.   My horses are in heaven. Each night when I go out to let them in, I sit in my lawn chair and just smile. All the neighbors would drive by real slow and would watch us as we were building. Now when I run into them at the local store they all come up and tell us how beautiful the barn is. Many people have asked where I got the plans to build and I have given them your company name. It sure is shaping up to be a very classy looking barn. I'm constantly looking at other Gambrels in the area and comparing them to ours and in my opinion, none are as nice. Kathleen Doyle Salisbury, NH 32x40 Horse Barn   I finally got the first truss up, but then we had a very high wind come through the other night and it blew one of my trusses clean off the building! Not the one I had standing, it is nailed and braced and very much a part of the structure. The truss that wanted to leave was the top one on the stack of trusses. (I am following your plans and have the finished trusses stacked on top of the loft). When I saw the truss laying in the field, I expected it to be in pretty sad shape, but it was totally intact! No cracks, twists, warping, or breaks. I got it back up on the deck (by myself) and set it back on the "stack", and everything still lined up perfectly. That is one strong design. Before I left for the day, I nailed all the trusses together with some strips of plywood, if one leaves now, they will all have to go. The inspector was very impressed that the trusses were site built. He thought they looked great..   I'm impressed with the plans and their presentation. I could draw for months with AutoCad and never have that nice look. I think presentation alone will make the building permit application go without a hitch in my area.
