In October 2009 we featured the 36x60 two story gambrel Garage/Shop built by Jack Leslie. Jack's a designer in research and development for PowerDyne Corp. way up in Clementsport, Nova Scotia. "The shop is our development center where we prepare new products from the idea, through prototyping, to market ready, to be manufactured in our factory in another location." Upstairs there's everything from the "potters corner", to the painters easel, to the workout gym, to a business office.... it's a real multi-purpose room.

The excavator is breaking ground for the 36x60 foundation and slab.

Wouldn't ya know it! A 10 ton rock right smack in the way!

No big deal....we'll just blast it out of the ground! The worker is rolling up the blast mat and loading it on his boom truck. (no pun intended!)

The site is excavated and the forms for the 48" frost foundation are set.

The mixer arrives and they pump the concrete into the forms.

Nice! The concrete's cured and the forms are stripped....ready to backfill.

Everything's backfilled and compacted....the mixer returns to pour the slab.

The slab's done and wall framing begins.

They're framing just as quick as they can because that Nova Scotia winter is on it's way!

They got the floor joists up and sheeted just as the snows hit so Jack had a truss company assemble the trusses for him. They did a really nice job!

The roof's sheeted and the dormers are just about done....they wrapped the whole thing in Tyvec.

That's more like it! The weather shaped up a little and they got the roof shingled and most of the siding up.

Next, the slightly modified Second Floor Covered Deck....they dropped the roof a couple of feet.

Inside the shop the insulation goes in....the ceiling's done and the walls are next to receive R-19 fiberglass.

Insulation is really important in Nova Scotia. Upstairs they're using R-38 in the ceiling. and R-19 in the gable-end walls. The wiring and plumbing is done....sheetrock is next.

Well, the upstairs is done and they've moved in....what a great space!

Like Jack said, this truly is a multi-purpose room. A nice office set up in one of the 8' dormer windows.

Just lots and lots of totally open room to do whatever!

This is a shot toward the front end of the barn with Jack's business office to the left.

Downstairs, Jack has built a really nice looking shop where, as we mentioned, he designs and builds prototype tractor rollover canopies and cabs for PowerDyne.

So there you have it....what a fine job on a great looking barn! Jack sez, "We have truly enjoyed the 'barn' and have had many favorable comments." Well, we don't doubt that. You've really got something you can be proud of, Sir....nice work!!
