(This may take a minute if there are a lot of photos in the series)
In March 2005 the 12x16 Mini-Barn Storage Shed of my personal friend, confidant and righteous Biker Bro, Barry Macler. Barry's a flooring contractor and fellow Harley-Davidson enthusiast living in California's "trendy" Napa Valley. We flew out from Hawaii to visit with Barry and participate in a 3 day motorcycle ride through the picturesque Gold Mining Country in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. It just so happened that our visit to Napa coincided with Barry beginning construction on his Mini-Barn....wow, go figure!! Well, we not only pitched in, we rounded up the rest of the Goodrich clan to lend a hand.
Barry, my "Other Brother from Another Mother," and I have ridden together for many years and countless miles.... no better reason to hook-up again than barns and bikes!
By the time we got to Barry's he had the pier block foundation and floor deck already in place.
He also had the walls framed up and most of the trusses assembled.
We finished the trusses and set the first one up against a couple of 2x4's nailed to the end wall to keep it plumb.
We marked out the top plates of the side walls @ 24" OC for truss spacing and used 32" pieces of scrap 1x2, tacked up under the truss, to keep the tops at the same interval.
Barry's seven toed cat, "Puppy," examines the purrr-lin installation.
With "Crow's Beak" in place, the crew strikes a pose for the camera. From bottom to top.... my brother, Barry.... my other brother, Barry.... my brother, Brian.... and me, Dano, on top!
Well, it's not often you'll find the Goodrich Boys in a situation where one grenade could take us all out, but we decided to make an exception when it came to helping Barry get his barn built. We had the trusses up in a couple of hours so it was time to put on the feed bag!
"Dolly Girl" would
Welp, dinner's over so it's back up on the roof with the Hitachi NR83A and a box of 8 penny gun nails.
Brian and Barry are on the ground cutting and passing up the 4x8 sheets of 1/2" OSB....
.....while Barry and I position and nail off the roof sheeting.
Barry assumes the position and trims the roof sheeting around the "Crow's Beak" with his cordless Sawzall.
Brother Barry had to split so the three of us finished off the roof sheeting by about 3:00 that afternoon.
Brother Brian and my darlin' wife, Ermie.... she's taken all the pictures so far.
We left the diagonal 2x4 bracing until Barry could hang the siding the following week.
The next morning, Barry ran down to the local Home Depot and picked up a couple rolls of felt and 12 bundles of 3-tab fiberglass shingles.... we had the roof done that afternoon.
Barry spent the following week finishing off the siding and hanging the 4' sliding door in the evenings, after work.
He built the 28"x 48" Cupola with a cool looking eagle weathervane and set the whole thing up on his brand new 12x16 Mini-Barn Storage Shed which he now uses to store supplies and materials for his custom floor contracting business.
Well, the barn's done and getting plenty of use, so.... all that's left to do is present the personally personalized, Limited Edition, BarnPlans, Inc. good luck "Horseshoe Barn Thingy" to Barry Macler.... barn builder extraordinaire, righteous biker bro and my friend!
