(This may take a minute if there are a lot of photos in the series)
In November 2006 we featured the 32x48 two story Gambrel Horse Barn built by Vince Carabelos, horseman and Professional Engineer in Golden, Colorado. Actually, before he built his Horse Barn, Vince purchased a set of our 12x16 Gambrel Mini-Barn Storage Shed plans back in February of 2003 and did a mighty fine job building that....
...but it was his existing equestrian facility that really needed help! (notice no fence in the back)
So, in June of 2003, Vince bought our 32x40 horse Barn plans, leveled and preped the site and on the first of July, 2005 poured the foundation and slab (68 yards!!) for his new 32x48 Horse Barn. (notice fence posts and framing in the back)
Well, they didn't waste any time! They had the walls framed, stood-up and sheared with OSB in the first week in preparation for the carrier beams and joists for the second floor. Note the open portion of the slab with crushed rock for the horse stalls.
Once the second floor was up, Vince layed out the truss jig according to the plans, then assembled and stacked the trusses right there on the second floor. The T1-11 siding is installed and primed. Note the piers for the Shed Roof posts. (notice finished fence in the back)
That's a lotta trusses!!
The morning of Wednesday August 10th, 2005, barely five weeks since they finished the slab, Vince hires a boom truck to help roll-up the trusses.
Although it's not really necessary, (the trusses only weigh about a hundred pounds, soakin' wet) the boom truck does make life a lot easier....if you can afford it (a couple hundred bucks), do it!
...and this is what you get!!
Vince takes a break to pose for a shot in the loft of his new barn while his worker secures the Cupola to the roof.
Roof sheeting is going on and the purlins are being notched-in for the fascia boards and varge rafters.
This is a shot of the Garage/Shop end of the barn. (west end, as it's situated) Vince used a 6x12 carrier beam with a 6x6 post every 12' and set it up for a 12' span using manufactured i-joists (instead of the 2x12's called for in the plans) on the South side, a 10' span over the center and another post and beam support with a 10' span on the North side....beefy!!!
This shot shows the stairs, nicely situated in the middle of the barn rather than in the end of the barn in the corner, along with the two 12x12 horse stalls at the East end of the barn.
Vince has finished the gable end siding and tied-in the Shed Roof....all ready for roofing and paint!!
Wow....just wow!! With a flag pole, even!
Picture perfect post card shot of the 32x48 two story Gambrel Horse Barn built by Vince Carabelos....Horseman, Professional Engineer and, now....mighty fine barn builder!! Nice work, Vince!!
